Why You Might Need an X-Ray
X-rays are commonly used to detect bone fractures and breaks but they can also be used to detect other health problems and concerns, including:
- Scoliosis
- Bone tumors (cancerous and non-cancerous)
- Lung problems
- Heart problems
Preparing for Your X-Ray
In general, you won’t need to do anything specific in preparation for your x-ray. You may be able to eat and drink as usual before your x-ray. You may also be able to continue taking your medications. Make sure to ask your physician for clarity, in case your x-ray will use a contrast agent. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid jewelry and clothing that features metals.
If you are pregnant, you should let your doctor know before undergoing your x-ray as they are not recommended for pregnant people, unless it is an emergency.
What to Expect from Your X-Ray
X-rays are completely painless and last for less than a second. In fact, the procedure will only take a few minutes overall. You may be asked to lie down on a table or stand against a wall or flat surface. This is done to position your body correctly. Once your x-ray is complete, we will send the results to a radiologist so they can be examined accordingly. We will then call you in to go over the results.
